I have always been facinated with Abstract Nude, and Abstract Beefcake. Not showing the face of a sexy man always fires my imagination. It always create an enigma.

In response to the previous post "The Naked and the Nude", I am pursuing the discussion in further detail in appreciating the Asian male physique.  Previously, we have discussed the difference between the naked and the naked and its forms.  With this, let us explore the abstract beefcake.

To define the term, it is indeed worth lifting a quote from the Cambridge Dictionary Online (2010) , wherein beefcake is defined as an attractive man with big muscles, or men with such bodies as shown in pictures or in shows. 

Art and Popular Culture (2009) published a post about Beefcake magazines, on which have been in existence since the 1930s to 1960s. These magazines featured muscular men in athletic poses. Initially, the market were generally men since the magazines promoted fitness and health (Ibid.).

From the definition of beefcake, to define abstract beefcake, we can define it from the perspective in Photography, wherein these are photos of men with good physique, big muscles on which the face is not the focus (often neglected) so that the body or the physique is the center of attention.

So here are some of the Asian hunks, all in duotone photos, to illustrate abstract nude or abstract beefcake. As you may notice, if you have read the previous post on The Naked and the Nude, we have featured  here some of the hunks previously included.

I'd Rather have Alfred Vargas be Naked than him serving the country.

In the recent elections last May 2010, Alfred Vargas ran for Councilor for Quezon City 2nd District and yes, he won. This now leads to several questions from fans such as " will he leave his career as an actor?" Well, he clearly mentioned though that he won't. In an article from telebisyon.net, he mentioned before the election that whether he will win or loose, he will not leave the showbusiness industry. 




Before becoming an actor, Alfred, Alfredo Paolo Dumlao Vargas III in real life, is an A.B. Management Economics graduate of the Ateneo de Manila University. His mom, Susana Vargas, also serve as a Deputy Executive Secretary for Finance and Administration, and thus it runs in the blood of the family to serve the country. 


The constituents had their trust on Alfred Vargas not because he has the looks and he is popular but because they believe that he is equipped in serving them.


But the downside is, as i may see it, being a Councilor, of being a person serving the government, one may have to follow the strict Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct and this only means he has to be more conservative on TV if he would like to hold a position in the government. This only means that he can no longer be naked again. No more sexy roles.

Alfred Vargas was considered one of the hottest men around in 2009, but for me, he still is and will always be. As director Louie Ignacio mentioned in Alfred Vargas Coffee Table book (2006), "Alfred is the new Adonis of the Philippine Cinema, after Richard Gomez and Jomari Yllana, we've found another brown man who invades our fantasy." The only thing is, he has chosen to lead a different road and prefers to serve the country.


Does this mean that he won't do it again? Perhaps, that can be the most probable case then. But for me, I'd rather see him as a sexy man on TV, magazine and billboards; in this case, he is making everyone happy, giving inspiration to people. Moreover, he can reach and serve the whole country, or even the whole world.




Anyway, let's just enjoy his pics here. These maybe the last chance we can see him this way. On a presscon for his Coffee Table book presented by Walker, he mentioned that he is proud in doing the photoshoot, it's like a once in a life time experience for him.
